SUPERIOR, Wis. – University of Northwestern Men's Basketball traveled up to University of Wisconsin-Superior on Friday evening for a conference road game. The Eagles and Yellowjackets went to overtime in a low-scoring game with tremendous defensive play from both teams, with UW-Superior eventually winning 57-54.
In the opening half, both teams shot below 40.0 percent from the field as the defensive play of both teams stood out from the start. The Yellowjackets had more success from long range in the first half, making 4-of-7 for 57.1 percent from three-point range while the Eagles went 3-for-12 for 25.0 percent. UW-Superior led 24-22 at the half.
The second half saw the Eagles find more success offensively, making 11-of-23 from the field for 47.8 percent shooting. The Yellowjackets made as many baskets in the second half, but the Eagles made one more three-pointer and a free throw to outscore UWS 25-23 in the half. Trailing 47-44 late,
Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) hit a three-pointer to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, the Yellowjackets outscored the Eagles 10-7 to take the 57-54 win.
Up next, Northwestern will travel to Ashland, Wisconsin to take on the Northland College in a conference battle at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 21. The Eagles will next play at home on February 10.
