Kaemingk’s Career-High 34 Points Leads Men’s Basketball to 93-65 Conference Win Over Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. – University of Northwestern Men's Basketball traveled to Northland College on Saturday afternoon for a conference road game. Senior forward Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) scored a career-high 34 points to lead the Eagles to a 93-65 win over the Lumberjacks. With the win, UNW improved to 4-3 in UMAC play.
 
Northland scored the opening basket of the game and traded points with UNW until a Kaemingk layup put the Eagles ahead 6-4. Northwestern would never trail again as the Eagles caught offense caught fire, going on a 12-0 run to take a 16-4 lead. UNW's scoring success continued as the Eagles shot 51.4 percent from the field in the first half. Defensively, Northwestern held Northland to 37.5 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes. Three-point shooting was key early as the Eagles made 7-of-17 from long range while the Lumberjacks were just 1-for-8 from beyond the arc in the first half. The Eagles and Lumberjacks would go to halftime with UNW leading 50-33.
 
The second half was similar to the first as the Eagles kept scoring while playing great defense against the Lumberjacks. Northwestern shot 46.9 percent from the floor in the second half, making 6-of-13 from three-point range for a 46.2 percent clip. Northland shot better in the second half than the first, but UNW's defense still limited the Lumberjacks to 39.3 percent shooting.
 
Overall, Northwestern shot 49.3 percent from the field while making 13-of-30 three-point shots for a 43.3 percent clip from long range. Northland made 38.3 percent of their shots from the field and 26.3 percent from beyond the arc in the game. With strong play on both ends of the court, the Eagles soared to a 93-65 conference victory.
 
Kaemingk scored his 34 points on 13-of-18 shooting while making 3-of-6 three-point shots. Caleb Hoilien (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) followed with 18 points, shooting 7-for-10 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Parker Behne (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) had a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double, shooting 4-for-7 from long range.
 
Up next, Northwestern will head over to Minneapolis to take on the North Central University Rams in a road conference battle at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 28. The Eagles will next play at home on February 10.
