Eagles Drop Home Opener

ST. PAUL, Minn.- It was a beautiful afternoon on Saturday when the Eagles played their first home game of the season at Reynolds Field. UNW took on Wisconsin-Platteville and dropped the contest 3-0.

The game was scoreless for the first ten-plus minutes, and then in the 13th minute, the visiting Pioneers broke the tie. In a transition situation, the Pioneers got in behind the Eagles' defense and scored the first goal of the afternoon.

Platteville would add another goal before the halftime break when they put one in the back of the net in the 31st minute. The Eagles trailed 2-0 at the half.

The third and final goal of the game came in the 53rd minute when Alyssa Peterson would score her second goal of the game for the Pioneers. That score would hold, and the Eagles lost their home opener 3-0.

Despite losing the contest, the Eagles outshot the Pioneers 15-12 in the match. Megan Kohrt (Monona, Wis./Homeschool) led the Eagles with five shots and Mya Chan (Brandon, S.D./Homeschool) had four of her own. Reagan Flaschberger (Shoreview, Minn./Centennial) had five saves for UNW.

The Eagles will have a week of practice to prepare for their next contest when they travel down the road to play Macalester College on Saturday, September 10th.
