ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - Heading into the final week of regular-season play, the University of Northwestern Women's Soccer Team came out firing against Crown College on Wednesday night, scoring three goals in the opening seven minutes. The Eagles' offense cooled off after the fast start, but the early scoring proved enough to secure a 3-1 win.
Naomi Meehan (Waconia, Minn./Homeschool) picked up where she left off last weekend, opening the scoring in the fifth minute. After receiving a pass from Tayla Thomas (Wylie, Texas/Homeschool) at the top of the box, she turned with a defender at her back and launched a shot that went bar down to give UNW the early 1-0 lead.
Just a minute later, Marie Kendall (Dakar, Senegal/Dakar Academy) sent a ball up the field that slipped through the back line to Ada Meehan (Waconia, Minn./Homeschool), who buried the shot for Northwestern's second goal.
In the seventh minute, Kendall added to the score sheet in spectacular fashion, scoring directly from the corner kick for an olimpico goal. The rare feat is an impressive one on its own, but even more so for the sophomore, who has now scored two olimpicos in her two-year UNW career. Almost exactly one year after scoring her first olimpico on November 1, 2025, Kendall found the net directly from the corner once again for the 3-0 advantage.
Crown managed just two shots on target, putting one in the back of the net in the 82nd minute. The goal marked just the fifth time a UMAC opponent has scored against the Northwestern defense this season.
Kendall and the Meehan sisters each tallied a goal. Kendall led the Eagles with 10 shots, three on target, and an assist. Naomi placed all five of her shots on target, while Ada finished with four shots, putting three on goal. Thomas also recorded an assist. Sam Hansen (Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy) played all 90 minutes between the pipes and finished with one save.
The Eagles are now 9-1-1 in UMAC and 11-2-2 overall and will finish their regular-season campaign on the road against the University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday at 3:30 PM.
