ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Northwestern volleyball alumna
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACCRAY) has been selected as the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference nominee for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year award, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Of the four student-athletes nominated by their respective institutions within the UMAC, Schwitters was selected by the conference to be their representative in the next stage of the selection process.
The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee will next announce the top 10 from each of the three NCAA divisions. Of the top ten, three finalists will be selected this fall. Of the three finalists, the Committee on Women's Athletics will select the final winner to be announced and recognized at the 2023 NCAA Convention in January.
Schwitters graduated this past year after completing her fourth and final season for UNW Volleyball in the fall of 2021. In her four-year career, Sydney earned an incredible list of accolades that included being named an AVCA Second Team All-American, earning two AVCA All-American Honorable Mention selections, and winning UMAC Volleyball Player of the Year in both 2019 and 2021. The team captain led the Eagles to four UMAC Regular Season Championships and three UMAC Tournament Championships. Schwitters set the all-time UNW records for assists with 4,684 and assists per set with 11.18 in her career.
