Box Score 2 NEW ULM, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Softball team played their third and fourth games of the weekend as they squared off with Martin Luther College on the road. The Eagles stayed perfect in conference play by sweeping the Knights by scores of 11-4 and 12-1.
Game One
Offense had been the story for the Eagles all weekend long and they continued that trend early on in game one. UNW scored two runs in the top half of the first thanks to a two-run single from
Telma Roesler (Hastings, Minn./Crown College). However, the Knights were ready to respond in the bottom half of the inning. The Knights hit a grand slam in the first inning that plated four runs and gave them an early lead.
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) was on the mound for the Eagles, and after surrendering the early homerun, the senior buckled down and went to work. Carlson would not allow another run for the rest of the game, holding the Knights to those four runs and striking out six batters.
On the other hand, the Eagles' offense was not finished.
Sydney Lane (Altoona, Iowa/Grand View Christian) would drive in
Megan Lundt (Frisco, Texas/Central Methodist) in the top half of the second inning, to pull the Eagles to within one run. The third inning arrived, and along with it came an offensive explosion for the Eagles. UNW would score eight runs in the third inning, bringing us to the final score of 11-4.
Maggie Oehlerking (Farmington, Minn./Farmington), who has had quite the weekend for the Eagles, started things off in the third inning with a two-run double.
Megan Lundt (Frisco, Texas/Central Methodist) followed up with a single that scored
Kate Beer (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake). Next up came a single from
Chloe Kimmes (New Trier, Minn./Randolph) that scored
Maggie Oehlerking (Farmington, Minn./Farmington).
Sydney Lane (Altoona, Iowa/Grand View Christian) would keep the line moving with a single that scored Lundt.
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) and
Telma Roesler (Hastings, Minn./Crown College) would finish out the inning with RBIs.
Mikayla Gee (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall),
Sydney Lane (Altoona, Iowa/Grand View Christian),
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West),
Telma Roesler (Hastings, Minn./Crown College),
Maggie Oehlerking (Farmington, Minn./Farmington), and
Chloe Kimmes (New Trier, Minn./Randolph) would lead the Eagles with two hits apiece.
Telma Roesler (Hastings, Minn./Crown College) ended with a team high three runs batted in.
Game Two
The Eagles followed the same formula in the second game as they did in the first game of the doubleheader. They scored a couple of single runs early, before blowing the game open with one explosive inning.
Telma Roesler (Hastings, Minn./Crown College) hit an RBI single in the first inning, and
Sydney Lane (Altoona, Iowa/Grand View Christian) hit an RBI double in the second inning to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead. The Eagles would blow the doors open in the third inning by scoring a remarkable ten runs.
Roesler would get things started by stealing home and scoring a run, and that was followed by four straight RBI singles from
Maggie Oehlerking (Farmington, Minn./Farmington),
Mikayla Gee (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall),
Sydney Lane (Altoona, Iowa/Grand View Christian) and
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West).
Jadyn Iverson (West Fargo, N.D./West Fargo) would then score two runs with a double. Roesler would hit an RBI single,
Jadyn Iverson (West Fargo, N.D./West Fargo) would steal home on an unearned run, and
Ally Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) would drive in a run with a sacrifice fly to finish out the monster third inning.
Martin Luther would score a run in the bottom half of the third inning and the rest of the game would remain scoreless as the Eagles won 12-1.
Emma Heffron (Altoona, Iowa/Grand View Christian) got the start for the Eagles and pitched four innings only giving up a single run.
Diana Boyce (Phoenix, Ariz./Park City) would pitch in relief for the Eagles and pitched a scoreless inning, only giving up one hit.

th with two games on the road against Wisconsin-Superior.
