ST. PAUL, Minn.- It was a day full of unknowns for the UNW Baseball team as they were unsure if they would be able to play their series finale game against Northland. The two teams agreed to move the start time up in order to beat the rain and the two squads were able to play. The Eagles defeated the Lumberjacks on 11-0 on Saturday to secure the series sweep.
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) would deliver his first (but not last) big hit of the game in the third inning to start the scoring. It was a single out to left field that scored
Bryce Crabb (Des Moines, Iowa/Grand View Christian), and in the next at bat
Aaron Severson (Columbia Heights, Minn./Columbia Heights) would hit an RBI double that scored
Keegan Vercoe (Queen Creek, Ariz./Poston Butte) and the Eagles led 2-0.
In the fifth inning, Peterson delivered once again. This time, it was a no-doubter, two-run homerun to left centerfield for his 8
th homerun of the season.
Trey Boushee (Fosston, Minn./Fosston) would keep the fifth inning going as he singled home
Aaron Severson (Columbia Heights, Minn./Columbia Heights), and that brought
Ben Spores (Arlington, Wash./Arlington) up to the plate. Nobody was swinging a hotter bat throughout the weekend than Spores, and in his fifth inning at bat the first baseman did it again. Spores hit his third homerun of the series, his fourth of the season, and the Eagles led 7-0 after five innings.
After securing a comfortable lead, the Eagles would continue to slowly pile on to their lead.
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth,
Isaac Pilon (Robbinsdale, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) had an RBI single in the seventh, and
Cramer Hamilton (Apple Valley, Calif./Excelsior) drove in two runs with a single in the ninth inning. The Eagles won the contest 11-0.
In addition to the offense, the pitching performance from the Eagles was stifling as well.
Bryce Crabb (Des Moines, Iowa/Grand View Christian), who started the second game of the series but only pitched two innings, got the start once again on Saturday morning. Crabb was phenomenal once again, pitching seven shutout innings, only giving up three hits, not walking anybody, and striking out seven batters.
Nick Drinken (Randolph, Minn./Randolph) would pitch the final two innings of the contest and he was just as dominant as Crabb was. Drinken pitched two perfect innings, not allowing a baserunner, and striking out four batters.
The Eagles will be back at Reynolds Field on Thursday, May 5
th when they host Augsburg at 6:00 P.M.
