ST. PETER, Minn. – The UNW Women's Tennis team took on the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings for their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference of the season on Saturday. The Eagles swept the Vikings in a 9-0 victory to improve to 7-3 overall.
In doubles,
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) and
Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) earned an 8-0 win at #3 doubles to put UNW ahead early.
Elli Dodge (Wahpeton, N.D./Wahpeton) and
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) followed with another 8-0 sweep for the Eagles at the #2 match.
Belinda Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) and
Annie Orvis (Rochester, Minn/Schaeffer Academy) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win in the #1 match.
In singles, the Eagles continued their winning ways. Jarchow took her #5 match 6-1, 6-1 for the fourth point of the team match. Dodge proceeded to clinch the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at #4 singles.
With the match secured, UNW kept up the success. Smith won her #3 singles match 6-1, 6-4. Marquardt followed with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of her #6 singles opponent. Orvis took #2 singles 6-1, 6-2. Weddle completed the 9-0 team sweep with a 6-0, 7-6 win at #1 singles.
Up next for Northwestern is a trip to Indianola, Iowa for a road match at Simpson College starting at 3:30 P.M. on Tuesday, April 5.
