URBANDALE, Iowa – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team took a trip to Iowa on Tuesday to take on Simpson College. The Eagles earned a 6-3 win over the Storm to improve to 8-3 on the season.
In doubles, the Storm jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an 8-0 win in the #1 match. UNW responded by winning the two remaining doubles matches, starting with
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Elli Dodge (Wahpeton, N.D./Wahpeton) taking #2 doubles 8-6.
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) and
Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) followed with an 8-1 win at #3 doubles to give Northwestern a 2-1 lead entering singles play.
Simpson managed to tie the match 2-2 by winning #2 singles. Smith regained the lead for UNW with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #3 singles. Jarchow added to the UNW lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 singles, but Simpson followed by taking the #1 match.
Up 4-3, Dodge clinched the match for Northwestern with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #4 singles. Marquardt closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the #6 match.
Up next for Northwestern is a return home for a pair of conference matches on their home courts this Saturday, starting at 1:00 P.M. against the Minnesota Morris Cougars. At 6:00 P.M., the Eagles will take on the Bethany Lutheran Vikings in another UMAC contest on campus.
