SARTELL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team drove up to the College of St. Benedict on Saturday for their second match of the season. The Eagles got a good doubles victory but fell 8-1 to the Bennies.
St. Ben's jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with an 8-0 win at the #1 Doubles match. The Eagles evened the score at #2 Doubles as
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Elli Dodge (Wahpeton, N.D./Wahpeton) earned an 8-3 victory for UNW. The Bennies would break the 1-1 tie with an 8-2 win at the #3 Doubles match.
Entering singles play up 2-1, the Bennies went up 4-1 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 Singles followed by a 6-1-6-0 win at #1 Singles.
CSB won the deciding fifth-point with a 6-3, 6-1 win at #2 Singles.
Next up for Northwestern is a trip to Fargo on Saturday, February 18, to take on Concordia College.
