BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team took on Buena Vista University on Saturday, with the Eagles earning an 8-1 win over the Beavers.
In doubles, UNW earned two of the three points. The #2 Doubles team of
Taylar Smith (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and
Elli Dodge (Wahpeton, N.D./Wahpeton) swept their match 8-0. In the #3 Doubles match, the duo of
Taylor Wentland () and
Grace Buswell (Winona, Minn/Winona) likewise swept BVU 8-0. The Beavers earned their lone team point of the match at the #1 Doubles contest, with Buena Vista taking a narrow 8-6 win.
In singles, the Eagles broke out the brooms to sweep all six matches.
Belinda Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the #1 spot.
Annie Orvis (Rochester, Minn/Schaeffer Academy) battled at the #2 match and earned a 7-5, 6-4 win. Smith swept her #3 match 6-0, 6-0.
Elise Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) competed in the #4 spot and took a 6-1, 6-1 win for UNW.
Analise Marquardt (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie) played #5 Singles and won 6-1, 6-0.
Rayna Baumgarn (Holmen, Wis./Holmen) completed the singles sweep for Northwestern with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of her #6 match.
Next up for Northwestern is a trip to warmer weather in Orlando for five matches. The first Florida match will be Monday, March 7, at 8:00 A.M. eastern time against Trine University.
