Fuqua Scores 26 to Lead Eagles in 96-63 Win for Men’s Basketball

HANCOCK, Mich. – University of Northwestern Men's Basketball traveled to Finlandia University for a neutral site game against Maranatha Baptist University on Friday afternoon. Five Eagles scored in double-digits against the Sabercats as UNW soared to a 96-63 non-conference win.
 
Maranatha took a 4-3 lead early in the game and held it for 42 seconds until a Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) three-pointer put Northwestern back up 8-6. The Eagles never gave up the lead again from then on in the game. UNW shot 55.9 percent from the field in the opening half, scoring 51 points on 19-of-34 shooting. The Eagles defense held the Sabercats to a 32.3 percent clip from the field in the first half. At halftime, UNW led the Sabercats by 24 points up 51-27.
 
In the second half, the Eagles shot 54.6 percent from the floor on 18-for-33 shooting; a nearly identical stat line to the first half. Maranatha shot nearly identical to the opening half as well, shooting 32.4 percent on 11-of-34 from the field. Northwestern closed out the game with a 33-point lead, winning 96-63.
 
Seth Fuqua (Colorado Springs, Colo./The Vanguard School) led the Eagles with 26 points on 75.0 percent shooting, going 9-for-12 from the field, making all four three-point shots taken, and making all four free-throw attempts. The senior added seven defensive rebounds and eight assists in the win.
 
Kaemingk followed Fuqua with 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting. Micah Pocernich (Cromwell, Minn./Cromwell-Wright) scored 11, making 5-of-12 shots. Parker Behne (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) scored 11 as well with a team-high three steals. Elijah Burns (Grand Prairie, Texas/Roseville Area) led the Eagles with nine rebounds in the win, scoring 10 points as well on 5-for-6 shooting.
 
Up next, Northwestern will face off against host Finlandia on Saturday at 5:00 P.M. Central, 6:00 P.M. Eastern.
