ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Northwestern Men's Basketball hosted University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Tuesday night for a non-conference battle in the Ericksen Center. The high-scoring contest went down to the wire but the Falcons managed to defeat the Eagles 90-88.
The Eagles shot 50.0 percent from the field in the opening half, scoring 41 points. UNW was on fire from three-point range, hitting 9-of-16 from beyond the arc for a 56.3 percent clip.
River Falls, however, had an even better first half of offense. The Falcons shot 59.3 percent from the field and 54.6 percent from three to go up 44-41 at halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles shooting cooled slightly to 46.0 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from beyond the arc. Even so, UNW surpassed their first-half point total with 47 in the second.
Northwestern rallied to take a 71-70 lead with 8:31 remaining in regulation. The Eagles pushed their lead up to three, but River Falls retook the lead with under six minutes to go. UNW kept pace down the stretch, but their comeback attempt would fall just short as the Falcons took the game 90-88.
Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) scored a game-high 23 points, going 8-for 20 from the field and 4-for-10 from three-point range.
Micah Pocernich (Cromwell, Minn./Cromwell-Wright) shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc to score 15 for the Eagles.
Elijah Burns (Grand Prairie, Texas/Roseville Area) scored 13 off the bench and had team-high seven rebounds.
Up next, Northwestern will travel to Hancock, Michigan for games against Maranatha Baptist and Finlandia next weekend. The Eagles take on the Sabercats first on Friday, December 2, at 3:00 P.M. CST (4:00 P.M. EST).
