Men’s Basketball Stumbles on the Road at UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – University of Northwestern Men's Basketball traveled east to take on University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday. The Eagles rallied in the second half after falling behind in the first, but cold-shooting down the stretch led to UNW falling 83-62 to the Blugolds.

The Eagles fell behind 29-48 in the first half. UNW shot well from the field at 41.8 percent, just behind the 43.2 percent of UWEC, but three-point shooting swung the first-half momentum in the Blugolds favor as Northwestern went 0-for-6 from beyond the arc while Eau Claire made 12 three-pointers on 48.0 percent shooting. The Blugolds took 13 more shots than the Eagles in the first half as UNW was out-shot 37-24.

Though they were down 19 at half, the Eagles never gave up. UNW started to rally in the second half and eventually cut the Blugolds' lead down to five points, trailing 56-51 with 7:48 remaining in regulation. However, the Eagles red-hot offense would go cold down the stretch, shooting 3-for-14 from the field for the remainder of the game.

Henry Fahnbulleh (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) led UNW with 17 points, nine rebounds, and six assists in the game. Micah Pocernich (Cromwell, Minn./Cromwell-Wright) followed with 16 points, shooting 3-for-3 from three-point range. Elijah Burns (Grand Prairie, Texas/Roseville Area) scored 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting and added six rebounds. Seth Fuqua (Colorado Springs, Colo./The Vanguard School) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Eagles with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Up next, Northwestern returns home to the Ericksen Center on Tuesday, November 22, for a 7:00 P.M. game against the University of Wisconsin – River Falls Falcons.
