Women’s Basketball Rallies for 63-50 Road Win over St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn. – University of Northwestern Women's Basketball traveled up to Duluth on Saturday for their first road game of the season at the College of St. Scholastica.  The Eagles rallied in the second half to take down their former conference rivals 63-50 to pick up their first win of the season.

The Saints took a 17-15 lead in the opening quarter. UNW outshot CSS from the field 50 percent to 40.0 percent in the first, but the Saints made four three-pointers to propel St. Scholastica to lead by two.

After solid shooting by both teams in the first quarter, both the Eagles and Saints struggled in the second. Northwestern shot 19.1 percent from the field but compensated with a 50.0 percent clip from beyond the arc on six shots. St. Scholastica shot 23.1 percent in the quarter and just 14.3 percent from three, but went 5-for-6 from the charity strip. Those CSS free throws proved to be the difference as the Saints outscored the Eagles in the quarter by one point to go up 29-26 at the half.

In the third quarter, Northwestern's defense helped hold the Saints to 10.5 percent from the field and 0-for-6 from three-point range to hold St. Scholastica to just five points in the frame. Meanwhile, the Eagles scored 18 points on 31.5 percent shooting to take a 44-34 lead.

The Saints shooting got back on track in the fourth quarter for 16 points, but the Eagles went on to have their highest-scoring quarter of the game with 19 points to close out the tough road win 63-50.

Lexi Hagen (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) led the Eagles with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Grace Landvik (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) and Allison Terry (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) each broke into double-digit points in the game, scoring 12 and 11 respectively. Hagen and River Landers (Grand Meadow, Minn./Grand Meadow) each had seven total rebounds to lead the team.

Up next, Northwestern returns home to host Macalester College at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, November 16, in the Ericksen Center.
