SUPERIOR, Wisc.- After six straight home games, the University of Northwestern Women's Soccer team was back on the road on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles made the trip across the border to face off with the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets. The Eagles suffered their first conference loss of the season, falling 2-0.
In a rematch of last year's UMAC Championship game, goals were hard to come by. In fact, out of the ninety minutes of game play, eighty of those minutes went by without a single goal scored from either side. Unfortunately for the visiting Eagles, there was a ten minute stretch where the Yellowjackets were able to push across two goals. Scoring in the 10
th and 20
th minutes, Superior won the contest 2-0. Kamryn Hill scored both goals for the Yellowjackets.
The Eagles kept pace with the Yellowjackets when it came to getting shots and scoring opportunities. Superior narrowly outshot the Eagles 17-14 in the contest, and 10-5 in shots on goal. UNW got solid performances from their goaltenders,
Reagan Flaschberger (Shoreview, Minn./Centennial) and
Delaynee Bohatta (Hammond, WI/St. Croix Central), who each made four saves to keep the Eagles in the game.
Haley Mersberger (Kiel, Wisc./Elkhart Lake Glenbeulah) led the Eagles' offense with four shots while
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) and
Mya Chan (Brandon, S.D./Homeschool) each fired off three shots.
Megan Kohrt (Monona, Wis./Homeschool) had two shots in the contest.
The conference season continues to roll along for the Eagles who will travel back to Wisconsin on Saturday, October 8
th to play the Northland College Lumberjills. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 P.M. start.
