ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Men's Soccer team played their final nonconference game of the 2022 season on Monday afternoon when they took on the Hamline University Pipers. The Pipers defeated the Eagles 2-0. UNW will play only UMAC games for the remainder of the regular season.
The nonconference matchup was a defensive battle where goals were hard to come by. The difference in the contest was the home team Pipers finding a way to "bookend" the game with goals. The Pipers scored in the opening five minutes and then got another goal in the final ten minutes to win the contest 2-0.
Despite dropping the game, it was an evenly matched battle. The shots count was extremely even with the Pipers narrowly edging the Eagles 17-15.
Bodean Gaustad (Andover, Minn./Andover) got the start in net for the Eagles and played a very solid game finishing with 9 saves.
Jonathan-Thomas Olsen (Modesto, Calif./James Enochs High) and
Alejandro Alfaro (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta) led UNW with three shots apiece.
The Eagles jump back into conference play with a bang, facing off against the preseason favorite Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets on Wednesday, October 5
th. The game starts in Superior, Wisconsin at 6:30 P.M.
