No. 5 Volleyball Sweeps Lumberjills; Improves to 10-0 in Conference, 24-2 Overall

ASHLAND, Wis. – No. 5 University of Northwestern Volleyball took on Northland College in a conference matchup on the road on Friday night. The Eagles swept the Lumberjills 3-0 to improve to 24-2 overall and remain undefeated against UMAC opponents this season at 10-0. Beyond undefeated, UNW has not dropped even a set against a conference opponent this season, winning all 10 matches by 3-0 sweep.
 
The Eagles opened the match firing on all cylinders, dominating the opening set in a 25-13 win. UNW reached a nine-point lead up 12-3. The Lumberjills cut the Eagles' lead down to six trailing 18-12, but Northwestern proceeded to win seven of the next eight to take the set.
 
Up 1-0, Northwestern kept up the attack. The Eagles jumped out to an early 9-3 lead. Northland started to rally to get within four points down 12-8, but UNW went on a 5-1 run to go up 17-9. The Lumberjills kept fighting, but the Eagles maintained their lead and closed out the set with three consecutive points for a 25-16 win.
 
UNW looked to wrap up the match in the third set. Once more, the Eagles powered their way to a big lead. Northwestern led by 12 points up 23-11. At that juncture, Northland strung together five in a row for their biggest run of the contest. Nonetheless, the Eagles won the final two points to take the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
 
Abby Glanzer (Brandon, S.D./Sioux Falls Christian) and Marley Aune (New Brighton, Minn./Avail Academy) led the Eagles offense with 10 kills each, hitting .500 and .600 respectively. Grace Strickfaden (Norwood-Young America, Minn./NYA) had 19 assists with Felicia Luther (Victoria, Minn./Southwest Christian) following with 14. Aune had five total blocks with four solo to lead the defense up front. Marylyn Schroyer's (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) 17 digs led the Eagles.
 
UNW hit .393 while holding the Lumberjills to .041 in the match. Northwestern had eight team blocks to the Lumberjills' one.
 
Up next, No. 5 Northwestern travels up to the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday for a conference contest at 1:00 P.M. in Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
