MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northwestern Men's Basketball returned to play with a conference matchup against the Rams of North Central University Saturday night. The Eagles came out victorious 71-59 and improved to a 9-4 overall record, 3-0 UMAC on the season.
Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) opened up the game with a three from the corner to put the Eagles up front. It would be a back and forth first 13 minutes of the game as both teams found themselves on runs. However, UNW never fell behind in the first half, as they would close out the half going on a 15-7 run to take a 41-33 lead.
The Eagles were hot in the first half, shooting 55 percent from the field, while shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc. A big difference between the two teams in the half was the performance from their bench players. UNW had 11 points from their reserves while the Rams had only two.
The second half saw the Eagles continue to hold the lead as they did not allow the Rams to get within three points. While UNW's shooting was not as hot in the half, they made up for it on the defensive end as they forced NCU to turnover the ball nine times in the half, 15 times overall.
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) led the Eagles in scoring as he put in 22 points while shooting 55 percent. Kaemingk was right behind him as he had 16 points while bringing in seven rebounds. It was a big night for
Owen Boerema (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) who finished the game with a double-double, recording 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The UNW Men's Basketball Team will get some time to recover before heading down to New Ulm to take on the Knights of Martin Luther College on January 14 at 7:15 p.m. For all things UNW Men's Basketball, fans can follow along at
