Eagles Stay Undefeated in Conference Play with 76-44 Victory Over Knights

NEW ULM, Minn. – UNW Men's Basketball continued conference play Friday night with a game against the Martin Luther College Knights. The Eagles took home another conference win as they beat the Knights 76-44 and improved to a 10-4 overall record, 4-0 UMAC record on the season.

It was a competitive but low scoring first half as neither team could find a good rhythm in the first 11 minutes. However, after Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) made two layups to give UNW a 15-11 lead, the Eagles would then outscore the Knights 14-7 to close out the half leading 29-21.

UNW shot well from all over the court as they finished the half shooting 40 percent. It was the Eagle's downlow game that really sparked the team as they scored 22 points in the paint while the Knights only had four. The aggression in the paint also led to many rebound opportunities for UNW as they outrebounded MLC 22-15 in the half.

The Eagles came out firing on all cylinders as they quickly went on a 15-2 run in the first five minutes of the second half fueled by Caleb Hoilien (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) who scored five of the 15 points. UNW never looked back as they continued to battle, eventually taking home the victory with a final score of 76-44 over the Knights.

The Eagles kept on crashing the boards as they finished with 55 rebounds to Martin Luther's 39, including 12 offensive rebounds that resulted in 15 second chance points. UNW also proved themselves as a shot blocking team tonight, finishing with six total blocks in the game.

Alm led UNW in scoring once again with 17 points. Filling in as a starter for the game, Hoilien had a dominant performance on the court, earning himself a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Right behind him in rebounds was Henry Fahnbulleh (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) who hauled in eight rebounds while scoring seven points as well. Another bright spot for the Eagles was Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) who finished the game with 10 points and seven rebounds.

The UNW Men's Basketball Team is back in action tomorrow as they will be taking on the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran in Mankato at 4:45 p.m. For all things UNW Men's Basketball, fans can follow along at www.unweagles.com or on Twitter and Instagram at @unwmbb.
