Waldeck's Career Night Leads Comeback Against The Vikings

MANKATO, Minn.- The UNW Men's Basketball Team pulled off a dramatic, come from behind win against one of the strongest teams in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference on Saturday night. The Eagles trailed the Bethany Lutheran Vikings by 17 points in the first half, and stormed back to win the contest 96-92.

Bethany Lutheran came out of the gates firing on all cylinders inside their home gym. The Vikings made seven three point field goals in the opening frame and scored an impressive 47 first half points. The Vikings led at the break 47-38.

In the second half, it was the Eagles' turn to get the offense cooking. UNW turned in their best offensive half of the season, scoring 58 points and came all the way back to lead by as much as seven points in the second half. The Eagles would hold on for the 96-92 victory. In the second half, the Eagles' shooting percentages were off the charts shooting 62% from the field, and 53% from three point range.

It was a career night for the Eagles' point guard, Caleb Waldeck (Newhall, Calif./Hart High). The senior scored 26 points, making six three pointers on the way. He also dished out four assists.

Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake), the Eagles' leading scorer on the season, chipped in 18 points and Caleb Hoilien (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) added 15 points. Henry Fahbulleh didn't score in the first half, but had a big performance in the second half, finishing the game with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Peter Sutton (Grand Marais, Minn./Cook County) added 10 points off the bench.

With the win, the Eagles move to 5-0 in conference play on the season, with all five of those victories coming on the road. The Eagles will return to the Ericksen Center for the first time since December 4th on Friday where they will square off with Wisconsin-Superior.
