Alm’s Fiery Second Half Lifts Eagles Over Yellowjackets 62-52

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The UNW Men's Basketball Team took another conference game on Friday night, this time against the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior by a score of 62-52. They improved their overall record to 12-4 and their conference record to 6-0.

It was a hot start both offensively and defensively for the Eagles as they jumped out ahead 14-0 in the first five and a half minutes of the game. The Yellowjackets battled back as Northwestern's offense started to slow down. UWS ended the half on an 8-2 run to bring their deficit back down to four points as UNW held a 27-23 lead entering halftime.

Northwestern's defense held the Yellowjackets to 29 percent shooting from the field. A big spot in the game for the Eagles was their ability to rebound the ball as they outrebounded UWS 30-21.

The second half continued the slow end for the Eagles as UW-Superior jumped into the lead and held it for the first seven minutes. But then, the Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) show commenced as the senior would score back-to-back threes to give Northwestern a lead of seven with 10 minutes left. With their fire rejuvenated, the UNW offense would continue to light up the scoreboard as they did not allow the Yellowjackets to get back within eight points. The Eagles were able to close out the game with a final of 62-52.

Northwestern continued their domination on the boards as they would win the battle 51-34. With 20 offensive rebounds, the Eagles were able to score 13 points, which was crucial to the victory. Another bright spot was the free throw shooting from UNW as they went 10-13 from the line.

After a quiet first half, Alm would finish the game with 23 points and six rebounds. Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) did his part as he scored 14 points while also bringing down six rebounds. Leading the team in rebounds was Caleb Hoilien (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) who brought in 11 boards alongside his eight points. Andrew Koehler (Scandia, Minn./Chisago Lakes) was a menace on the defensive end as he would not let any man back him down, finishing with three blocks and a steal.

The Eagles are right back at it again tomorrow as they will be hosting the Lumberjacks of Northland College in the Ericksen Center at 4:45 p.m. For all things UNW Men's Basketball, fans can follow along at www.unweagles.com or on Twitter and Instagram at @unwmbb.
