MORRIS, Minn.- The defenses dominated in Morris on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles and the Cougars played into Double Overtime, but could not push any goals across and ended in a 0-0 tie.
The Eagles defense was stifling in the first half, not allowing a shot by Morris. The Eagles totaled 11 shots of their own in the half, but the Morris goalkeeper, Lucas Harmon, was up to the task keeping the game scoreless going into the halftime break.
The shot totals were more even throughout the remainder of the match. UNW had seven shots to Morris' four in the second half, but the game remained scoreless. In the two overtimes, the Eagles had five shots to the Cougars' two. The back lines and the goalkeepers from each team were tremendous, and the game ended with no goals scored on either side.
The Eagles outshot Morris 23-6, and won the shots on goal category as well, 11-2.
Austin Gunkel (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) was in net for the Eagles, and came up with a shutout on back to back days. Gunkel had two saves.
Jonathan-Thomas Olsen (Modesto, Calif./James Enochs High) had six shots for the Eagles, and
Alejandro Alfaro (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta) had five.
The Eagles continue this physically challenging stretch, as they are back in action on Tuesday September, 28
th, another quick turnaround. UNW will travel to New Ulm to face Martin Luther in a conference game.
