ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team hosted UW-Superior Thursday night. With only a few chances on net, the Eagles were unable to secure the win and lost 2-0.
While the first half of play was scoreless, UNW still had chances on net. In the first half Northwestern was able to take three shots to the Yellow Jackets four.
Josh Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) led the half taking two of the three shots. Goalkeeper,
Austin Gunkel (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) made three saves in the first to keep the game scoreless.
With only two shots in the second half the Eagles could not find the back of the net, but were also playing tough defense as UW-Superior was held scoreless for most of the game. In the 74th minute, the Yellow Jackets scored their first goal. Less than ten minutes later they scored their second.
UNW finished the game with five shots (four shots-on-goal).
Austin Gunkel (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) finished the game with six saves in total.
Josh Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) led the team in shots with three, while
Samuel Hendry (Spooner, Wis./Spooner High School),
Luke McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield High School) and
Bryan Sanchez (El Paso, Tex./Franklin) both took two shots.
The Eagles next match is this Saturday at Crown College, kickoff set for 1 pm.
