ASHLAND, Wis. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team traveled to Northland College Tuesday for a conference match-up against the Lumber Jacks. The Eagles scored one goal in the second half, but it wasn't enough to defeat Northland, losing 3-1.
UNW falls to 5-8 overall and 1-2 in the UMAC.
Breen Eiden () scored the lone goal for Northwestern in the 56th minute of play, his first goal of the season.
The Eagles found themselves down two goals in the first fifteen minutes of play. A few minutes later, JT Olsen had a chance on goal but later was offside. In the first half, UNW was held to one shot, while Northland had two.
Second half of play began strong for Northwestern as
Samuel Hendry (Spooner, Wis./Spooner High School) took a shot on goal before
Josh Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) connected with
Breen Eiden () who found the back of the net. The Eagles out shot the Lumber Jacks in the second half, 9-3 but were unable to connect on more goals.
Northland scored one more goal on Northwestern before the clock reached 90-minutes.
Breen Eiden () led things for the Eagles with the lone goal and two shots.
Peter Skoglund (Northfield, Minn./Skoglund Academy) and
William Marsan (Eden Prairie, Minn./Home School) each had two shots while
Jonathan-Thomas Olsen (Modesto, Calif./James Enochs High) took three.
The next match for UNW is this coming Saturday as they host Martin Luther College, kick-off set for 3:30 pm.
