SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Northwestern women's volleyball team traveled to Wisconsin-Superior to take on the Yellow Jackets Thursday evening.
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) led the charge for the Eagles finishing with 16 kills on the night. The three set sweep scores were as follows: 25-15, 25-17, 25-13.
UNW extends their undefeated streak in the conference moving to 6-0 in UMAC play and 21-5 overall. Northwestern has not lost yet this spring season, and hopes to keep it that way moving forward.
The first set began with a Yellow Jacket point before the Eagles scored five straight points, starting with a kill from
Kiera Brown (Columbia Falls, Mont./Columbia Falls). Points went back and forth before another Northwestern run led by two kills for
Kendra Hardy (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) to go up 15-8.
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) made a crucial play to get the Eagles within five of taking the first set. Four UWS errors helped UNW win set one 25-15.
Set two came with much of the same for Northwestern as they downed 21 kills (.421 attack percentage) to the Yellow Jackets 10.
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) had six kills to help in three runs to keep the Eagles ahead all set and garner the win, 25-17.
Kate Rogers (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) finished things off in set three, serving eight straight points and tabbing an ace of her own to put Northwestern up 10.
Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) and
Caitlyn Pruis (Sioux Falls, SD./Sioux Falls Christian) helped UNW get to 25 first and finish the match 3-0 with their kills.
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) led offensively for the Eagles with 16 kills (one shy of her career high) and two blocks.
Kendra Hardy (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) added 12 kills and
Caitlyn Pruis (Sioux Falls, SD./Sioux Falls Christian) had eight.
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) dished out 39 assists and
Marylyn Schroyer (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) picked up 16 digs.
Northwestern recorded 47 kills to Superiors 28.
The Eagles will be back in action Saturday as they host Martin Luther College inside the Ericksen Center, game time set for 1 pm.
