ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's volleyball team hosted Martin Luther College in a Saturday afternoon matchup.
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) dished out 30 assists to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 win over the Knights, 25-6, 25-15, 25-11.
UNW improves to 22-5 on the season and 7-0 in UMAC play. With just one more game in conference play, the Eagles look to take their 23rd regular season title.
Northwestern averaged a .347 hitting percentage overall which helped lead them to their eighth straight win.
In set one, five different Eagles made plays to record nine kills.
Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) added four in set one. UNW had four aces in just the first set and capitalized on nine errors by MLC to take the first set 25-6.
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) served the last nine points for Northwestern, one of those being an ace.
Senior,
Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) who had six of the 12 kills for the Eagles, led set two. Many errors by the Knights led to points for UNW.
Caitlyn Pruis (Sioux Falls, SD./Sioux Falls Christian) finished out set two with an ace to go up two sets to none.
The Eagles finished set three quickly as
Caitlyn Pruis (Sioux Falls, SD./Sioux Falls Christian) downed five kills.
Lucy Pelzel (St. Joseph, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral) (1),
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) (1) and
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) (2) recorded four aces on the set to help their team to the victory. Straub served seven points in a row to give Northwestern the 15-4 lead. UNW's 14 kills to the Knights five was monumental in their success on the day.
Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) finished the match with nine kills,
Caitlyn Pruis (Sioux Falls, SD./Sioux Falls Christian) had seven and
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) added six. Northwestern recorded 10 blocks; Pruis with five, while
Kendra Hardy (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) and
Kiera Brown (Columbia Falls, Mont./Columbia Falls) each with four.
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) dished out 30 assists on the day and the Eagles recorded 38 total digs.
UNW is back in action on Thursday as they head to Minnesota Morris to take on the Cougars for the last match of the regular season. The game is set to begin at 5 pm.
