DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team traveled to Duluth, Minnesota for a conference match-up with the College of St. Scholastica Saints (CSS) in Saturday evening action. In the past 10 meeting of these two teams, the Eagles come in miles ahead with an 8-2 advantage. UNW was victorious again as they extend their winning streak this season to three games, defeating the Saints, 68-45.
Scholastica's only lead came in the beginning of the game before the Eagles would dominate play and stay ahead for the rest of regulation. Northwestern capitalized on the Saint's 15 turnovers, scoring an impressive 27 points to Scholastica's 13.
UNW moves to 8-4 on the season and 2-1 in the conference, while CSS falls to 0-2 on the year and in conference play.
After the Saints small lead by five, the Eagles scored 15 points in a row to overwhelm Scholastica and put them down 10, 15-5. Northwestern's defense was on point as they only allowed CSS seven more points in quarter one.
UNW went on an eight point run in the second to extend their lead once again after a few Saint's buckets. The Eagles went up by 22 towards the end of the half over CSS, 40-19.
Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) scored half of Northwestern's points in the first and added eight rebounds.
The third quarter, surprisingly had Scholastica outscoring the Eagles 14-10, but UNW still held a 50-33 point lead heading into the fourth.
The Saints came within 14 of Northwestern, but would not prevail as the Eagles ultimately pulled away with a 23 point win, 68-45.
Saturday's win brings UNW's second win of conference play and pushes them into third place in the conference behind North Central and Bethany Lutheran.
Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) ran the show securing her career high, 26 points and her seventh double-double of the season grabbing 15 rebounds.
Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) added 11 points and
Hailey Paup (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Concordia Academy) had 10.
The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday, February 11 as they host Minnesota Morris, tipoff slated for 7 pm.
