ST. PAUL, Minn - The University of Northwestern women's basketball team hosted the Minnesota Morris Cougars for a conference matchup Thursday night in the Erickson Center. The Eagles came ready to play with an 8-4 record after a thrilling 23 point win over St. Scholastica last Saturday.

UNW won the tip and started the game with the first five points. The Eagles proved tough defense in the first quarter with five steals, two blocks and ten defensive boards. Strong offensive drives and great shooting made Northwestern eight for nine from the free throw line. Northwestern ended the quarter 15-12 with a block from Hailey Paup (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Concordia Academy).

Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) continued UNW's lead with the first bucket of the second quarter. Both Roberts and DeKam broke 10 points before the end of the half. The Eagles led with nine steals over the Cougars' six.

Roberts started the third quarter with a triple from behind the arc. Aggressive defense led Northwestern back into the lead to end up on top, 49-43. This was the catalyst to an impressive 15 point lead for the Eagles, seen later in the fourth quarter.

Allison Eide (Farmington, Minn./Christian Life Academy) made the first point of the fourth quarter from the free throw line after an aggressive drive to the lane. The game became electric with the Eagles gaining a 63-48 lead mid quarter.
