High Scoring Lifts Eagles Past Vikings, 100-75 in Conference Win

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team hosted Bethany Lutheran College in Thursday night action in the Ericksen Center. The Vikings got ahead early, but nearly not enough as the Eagles were victorious bringing in an immense win, 100-75.

The Eagles improve to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the UMAC, while Bethany falls to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in UMAC play. The last time UNW faced BLC was February, 2020 as Northwestern won by 15. UNW leads the all-time record against the Vikings, 26-7.

BLC led for the first seven minutes of the game and wouldn't take the lead again. Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) scored a layup to give the Eagles the lead for the first time of the night with 10 minutes remaining. Northwestern then went on an eight point run, led by Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake). The Vikings tied things up at 31, but UNW ended the first half win an eight point lead, 44-36.

After the break, Henry Fahnbulleh (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) put the Eagles up by 10 with a jumper. Northwestern's biggest lead came by 26 with 12 minutes left in the game. Caleb Hoilien's (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) massive block kept the defense alive for UNW as they held BLC to minimal points.

The Vikings got within 15, but ultimately the Eagles pulled away big. The game ended with a huge win for Northwestern to land third Conference standings, with four more conference games in the season.

Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) led the charge for the Eagles bringing in 25 points, while Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) netted 22. Northwestern shot 54 percent from the field and 55 percent from three-point land. UNW took six steals to the Vikings one.

The Eagles next game will be this coming Saturday as they travel to Ashland, WI to take on the LumberJacks of Northland, tipoff slated for 3 pm.
