Alm Breaks Men’s Basketball Program Record with 42 points in 98-81 Conference Victory

MORRIS, Minn. -- Noah Alm's (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) historic night powered the Eagles to a 98-81 victory over Minnesota Morris on Tuesday night. The senior set the all-time single game program record with a 42-point performance while also earning a double-double with 10 rebounds. Alm broke the previous record of 41 points that was set by Steve Discher on March 3, 2007, and that Alm himself tied two years ago on January 31, 2019.

Alm shot 56.7 percent from the floor, going 17-for-30. The three-point shot was a key weapon for him in his record-breaking game, as the senior splashed 7-of-15 threes for a 46.7 percent clip.

Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) had a great game as well, joining Alm in the double-double club with a team-leading 12 rebounds and 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting.

The Eagles never trailed in the contest thanks in part to a hot start, as UNW went up 12-2 in the first four minutes of the game. The Cougars fought back and managed to cut the Eagle lead to one point when Jarrett Kujava hit a jumper, took a foul, and made the and-1 in the eighth minute to set the score at 17-16. Caleb Hoilien (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) answered with a lay-up 30 seconds later to put UNW up by three, and the Eagles never looked back from there.

Northwestern was devastating from three-point range, shooting 40.9 percent while landing nine shots from downtown. Even when they missed, the Eagles did well to recover as they out-muscled the Cougars for 21 second-chance points in comparison to UMM's 15. As a team, the Eagles shot 47.6 percent from the floor in contrast to the Cougars' 40.0 percent.

The Eagles improved to 6-2 overall with the win and 2-1 in conference play. Northwestern returns home on Thursday, February 18, for their next contest as they face Bethany Lutheran at 7pm in the Ericksen Center.
