ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team lit up the scoreboard as they took down the Finlandia University Lions 100-62 on Friday night, improving themselves to a 3-3 record.
The Eagles came out to play as they scored at will early on in the first half.
Caleb Waldeck (Newhall, Calif./Hart High) scored a three pointer to start off the game and UNW would never see the lead leave their sights after it. The Eagles saw their lead grow to as large as 24 throughout the first half. They shot 55 percent from the field, including 54 percent from beyond the arc. The Eagles also dominated the boards as they earned themselves 12 second-chance points. UNW entered the locker room leading the Lions 53-30.
In the second half, it was
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) who took over as it seemed like he could not miss. The Eagles would once again grow their lead, going up by as many as 44 points. Just like in the first, the Eagles as a team shot great from the field, shooting 48 percent during the half as well as continuing their domination on the boards, adding eight more second-chance points to their total. The Erickson Center erupted as the Eagles reached triple digits on the scoreboard when
Jackson Pettit (Roberts, Wis./Saint Croix Central ) splashed a three-pointer with just 26 seconds remaining in the game.
The Eagles were led by Alm as he finished the game with 22 points, shooting 9-of-17 from the field. Waldeck also added 14 points to his season total. Right behind him were
Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) and
Andrew Koehler (Scandia, Minn./Chisago Lakes) who each scored 11. Koehler also tied
Henry Fahnbulleh (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) for total rebounds as they both grabbed eight a piece.
