Kaemingk and the Eagles Best the Sabercats

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team took down Maranatha Baptist University 85-58 on Saturday night inside the Ericksen Center. The Eagles improved their record to 4-3 on the season.

The Eagles came out scorching early in the first half. They went on a 23-6 run in the first ten minutes of the game. Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) was on fire, scoring 11 points in the first seven minutes of the run, including three 3-pointers. The Sabercats would scratch back from their deficit, closing the lead to only 11 points by the end of the first half. The Eagles had 12 offensive rebounds which resulted in 10 second-chance points. UNW led the MBU 37-26 going into the lockers.

In the second half, the Eagles did not allow the Sabercats to get as close as 10 points in the game as they calmly shut them down. The Eagles shot more precisely in the second half as they hit 46 percent of their shots, hitting 43 percent of their threes. UNW saw their lead grow to 27 as they defeated the Sabercats 85-58.

The crowd waited in anticipation as Micah Pocernich (Cromwell, Minn./Cromwell-Wright) pulled up from the center of the arc and swished in a three, giving the Eagles more than 80 points, which meant free Chick-Fil-A for the fans.

Kaemingk finished the game with a total of 28 points. Right behind him was Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) who achieved a double-double in tonight's contest, scoring 19 and rebounding 12. Pocernich also finished with 13 points. Other rebound monsters included Henry Fahnbulleh (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) who had 12 rebounds and Owen Boerema (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) not too far behind with 11 boards.
