ORANGE, Calif. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team opened their week of competition in California with a win over Chapman on Tuesday night. The Eagles defensive effort powered them to a 46-36 victory over the Panthers.
Chapman (31%) outshot the Eagles (27%) in the opening quarter to take an 11-8 lead. Northwestern bounced back in the second quarter to stifle the Panthers defensively and hold Chapman to just four points on 11 percent shooting while scoring 18 points on 41 percent shooting to go up 26-15 at the half.
The Panthers responded from a rough second quarter to outscore UNW in the third 11-9, though Northwestern still led 35-26 going into the final frame. The Eagles scored 11 in the final quarter while holding Chapman to 10 as Northwestern opened their California road trip with a victory.
UNW shot 34.0 percent from the field while holding Chapman to 19.2 percent shooting.
Grace Landvik (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) led the Eagles with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field and 3-of-7 from three-point range.
Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) notched a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebound in a dominant defensive performance.
