Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Elijah Lundell

Women's Basketball Falls to No. 6 Simpson

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team took on the No. 6 nationally ranked Simpson College Storm in the Erickson Center on Saturday. The Storm took the contest 79-50. The Eagles now sit at a 2-1 record.

It was a defensive battle in the first half as both sides heavily contested each other. The Eagles's defense had a fantastic second quarter as they held the Storm to just 29 percent shooting from the field, including 0-for-8 from beyond the three point line. The Eagles entered the locker room trailing 30-15 at the half.

It was in the third quarter where both offenses would light up the scoreboard for a total of 55 points. The Storm saw 62 percent of their threes find the back of the net.

Not to be outdone, the Eagles would see a remarkable 83 percent of their threes find the basket in the third. Jasmine Sondrol (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River) hit back to back threes late in the quarter for the Eagles to give their offense a boost. The Storm entered the final quarter up 64-36.

The lead built by Simpson in the first half and their lights out shooting in the third quarter proved to be too much for the Eagles as UNW fell to the Storm 79-50.

Sondrol finished with nine points in the contest to lead Northwestern. Right behind her was Hailey Paup (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Concordia Academy) who scored eight points and grabbed five boards. Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) was a force on the floor as she led both teams with 10 rebounds.

The Eagles will have some time to rest as they will not see the floor again until Friday, December 3. They will be hosting Finlandia University at 6:00 p.m. in the Erickson Center. For all things women's basketball visit www.unweagles.com or follow them on Instagram and Twitter at @unwwbb.
