Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Elijah Lundell

Lund Scores 1,000th Point as Eagles Take Down Finlandia

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team took on the Finlandia University Lions in the Erickson Center on Friday. The Eagles took the contest 54-41 and improved to a 3-1 record. In the win, Kelsea Lund (Madison, Minn./Lac qui Parle Valley) became the 17th Eagle women's basketball player to eclipse 1,000 career points.

It was a back and forth first quarter as both teams would exchange leads. The Eagles would crawl themselves out of a six point deficit and would go on a 7-0 run in the final minutes to take a lead at the end of the quarter 16-15.

The second quarter was much like the first as neither team found themselves taking a lead of more than three points. Late in the quarter, Lund sank a three pointer to give the Eagles a 28-25 lead going into the half. The bench for the Eagles were on fire as they shot 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.

The Eagle's defense came to play in the third quarter as they held the Lions to six points and 14 percent shooting from the field. The Eagles built on their lead as they finished the third quarter up 40-31.

Finlandia would not go down without a fight as the Eagles saw their lead brought all the way down to two points early in the final quarter. However, the Eagles would go on a 13-0 run, solidifying their victory and during which Lund would see her 1,000th career point go in. The Erickson Center erupted in elation as the Eagle's celebrated this achievement.

It was a night of milestones as Lund finished the game with 12 points, becoming the 17th Eagle in program history to hit 1,000 career points. Lund also had 5 assists in the game, recording her 250th career assist, becoming the 11th player to do so. Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) had a double-double during the contest, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Roberts grabbed her 500th rebound of her career, becoming the 16th player to do so for the Eagles women's basketball program.

The Eagles have a quick turnaround as they will be hosting Maranatha Baptist University tomorrow, December 4. The game will be at 2:00 p.m. inside the Erickson Center. For all things women's basketball visit www.unweagles.com or follow them on social media @unwwbb.
