Ross Scores a Late Goal to Give the Eagles a Dramatic Win Over North Central

ST. PAUL, Minn.- The UNW Men's Soccer team played their third consecutive game at home on Tuesday night as they hosted North Central. The Eagles defeated the Rams in dramatic, come from behind fashion to collect a much needed conference victory. Northwestern used two second half goals to defeat the Rams, 2-1.

In the first half, defense was the story. Neither team was able to find the back of the net, and after one half, this game was following the script from the last time these two teams played this season (that game was 0-0 at the end of regulation and went into double overtime).

Finally in the second half, the floodgates opened. It was the Rams that opened the scoring in the 58th minute when the visitors were awarded a penalty kick. Jerad Buse knocked it home, and Northwestern trailed 1-0.

The Eagles didn't panic when they fell down, and kept creating scoring opportunities. In the 69th minute UNW was awarded a corner kick. Justin Ross (Midwest City, OK./Midwest City) (this will not be the last time we mention his name) delivered a ball into the box that bounced around and was not controlled. The ball eventually found the foot of Cole Alfrey (Elkhorn, Neb./Elkhorn), who took control of it, and delivered a high arching, beautiful shot into the upper left corner. The game was tied on Alfrey's second goal of the season.

After nearly 70 minutes of not scoring, the Eagles had new life after their game tying goal. In the 76th minute, the home team struck once again. The aggressive Eagles created another bouncing ball in the box, and this time it found the foot of Justin Ross (Midwest City, OK./Midwest City). The sophomore delivered a laser into the back of the net for the game winning goal. Justin Ross (Midwest City, OK./Midwest City) picked a picture perfect time to score the first goal of his Eagle career.

The game was tight on the scoreboard, but statistically, the Eagles were in control. Northwestern had 24 shots on goal (15 on net) compared to North Central's two shots (one on net).

The Eagles will look to build off of this emotional win as they are back at Reynolds Field on Friday, October 15th as they square off against Minnesota-Morris.
