ST.PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern Women's Basketball squad was back in action after a month hiatus, playing host to Wartburg College on Saturday afternoon. Your Eagles finished 2020 with a 4-2 record and came in looking to start off the New Year 1-0. Wartburg, hailing from the American Rivers Conference, came into the matchup with a 2-0 record.
Both teams got off to a slow start in the 1
st quarter, each team shooting below the 25% mark from the field. Wartburg was able to overcome their bad shooting, going up on UNW, 10-7 to end the quarter.
The Eagles struggled again from the field in the 2
nd quarter, shooting only 15%. Wartburg outscored UNW 20-5 in the quarter, bringing the score at the half, Eagles 12, Wartburg 30.
UNW came out of the half with a vengeance, outscoring Wartburg 9-5 to start the quarter. The Eagles went on to outscore Wartburg 19-18 to end the quarter and bring the score to UNW 31, Wartburg 48.
Wartburg went on to outscore UNW once again in the 4
th quarter, 14-10, to bring a final score of 62-41, in favor of Wartburg.
Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) led the Eagles in scoring with 11 points while also contributing 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) added 11 points and 3 rebounds while
Hailey Paup (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Concordia Academy) pitched in 8 points with 6 rebounds.
UNW will look to get back on track and secure their first win of the season next Saturday, January 23
rd as they host Martin Luther College at 2pm.
