Men's Soccer Falls Short in 2020 Season Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team traveled to Clarke University to take on the Pride for an early evening matchup. Due to Covid-19, conference games for the Eagles will take place in the spring, bringing in a whole new schedule for UNW.

Northwestern begins this season with 17 returners and 11 freshman. Head coach, Greg Wheaton, is starting his 20th season with the program.

The Eagles started right off the bat, scoring their first goal of the season, 5 minutes into the first half. Freshman William Marsan (Eden Prairie, Minn./Home School) took a penalty kick to put UNW up 1-0.

Although the Eagles were out-shot each half, they battled hard to keep things close. Clarke was able to score 3 goals in the first half.

Northwestern ended the game with 5 shots on goal and 4 saves from the net. The Pride would score 5 more goals in the second half to bring the final score to 8-1.

UNW will compete again on September 15th at Reynolds field as they take on Viterbo University at 7pm.
