Eagles Fly High After Victory Over Maranatha Baptist

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern Eagles took on the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist on Thursday in a late afternoon showdown. The Eagles were able to pick up their first win of the season, defeating the Sabercats by a final score of 4-0. With the win, Northwestern now stands at 1-2 on the season.

It was total domination for the Eagles, who got on the board early at the 14:51 mark thanks to junior defender Cole Alfrey (Elkhorn, Neb./Elkhorn) who was assisted by Joshua Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View). Cole Alfrey (Elkhorn, Neb./Elkhorn) wasn't done, as he scored goal number two for the Eagles on a corner kick header from freshman Luke McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield High School) just before the conclusion of the first half.

The Eagles opened the second half with a bang, scoring at the 47:52 thanks for Joshua Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View). UNW would go on to score one more goal for the afternoon when Freshman Jonathan-Thomas Olsen (Modesto, Calif./James Enochs High) got on the board, making this his second goal of the week after scoring the lone goal for the Eagles on Tuesday vs Viterbo.

UNW led the charge in total shots for the afternoon, totaling a whopping 43 compared to Maranatha's two. Jonathan-Thomas Olsen (Modesto, Calif./James Enochs High) led the Eagles in total shot attempts with 12, while Luke McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield High School) and Joshua Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) each chipped in six.

The Eagles will look for their second win of the year, when they to take on Maranatha again on Tuesday, September 29, but this time on their home turf. Follow along with UNW men's soccer by visiting www.unweagles.com and following @unwmsoc on Twitter and Instagram.
