ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern is excited to announce the hiring of Eric Baumgartner and Boomer Roepke who will join UNW's football coaching staff this fall. Baumgartner will serve as the Eagles Offensive Coordinator after previous coaching stints at Iowa State University and Malone University. Roepke, also hailing from Iowa State's coaching staff, joins UNW as the Quarterbacks Coach and Passing Game Coordinator.
Eric is a University of Northwestern alum who earned Marketing and Accounting degrees from UNW in 2012. He spent the last eight years coaching at UNW (2012-2014, Linebackers, Offensive Line, and Tight Ends Coach), Malone University (2015-2019, Defensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator) and Iowa State University (2019-2020, Defensive Quality Control Coach). Baumgartner commented on his hire stating, "I am very excited to return to my alma mater and a place that helped me to develop into the man I am today. I am grateful to Coach Moore for this opportunity and blessed to have the ability to coach alongside many of the same coaches who taught me so much during my college career."
Boomer earned his Bachelor's Degree in Communication and his MBA from the University of Southern California where he tacked on a varsity letter in both football and swimming. Roepke went on to earn an additional Master's Degree in Youth Development from Iowa State University. He spent the last seven years coaching at USC (2013-2015, Graduate Student Coach), Pasadena City College (2016, Special Teams) and Iowa State University (2017-2019, Special Teams/QB Graduate Assistant). He has worked under and learned from esteemed Head Coaches including: Pete Caroll, Lane Kiffin, Ed Orgeron, Matt Campbell and more. Boomer referenced Galatians 6:9 as he prepares to take on his new role, "Let's not get tired of doing what is good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest – if we do not give up."
Head Football Coach Matt Moore is thrilled to have both coaches joining the staff stating, "Eric and Boomer bring with them such a vast knowledge of the game and their enthusiasm toward coaching is so infectious. I couldn't be more excited to have both of them on the staff."
