UNW Baseball FOCUS Featuring: Daniel Peterson

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The University of Northwestern baseball program has built its foundation on the pillars of faith, obedience, compassion, unity and selflessness (FOCUS). With this in mind, Head Coach Dave Hieb understands the importance of getting to know his student-athletes beyond the baseball field. Each day over the course of the next few weeks, we will be getting to know the Eagles.

Through faith, obedience, compassion, unity and selflessness (FOCUS) the baseball team lives and breathes. Get ready to check-in for different players' answers to questions asked by Coach Hieb. These will also be posted to the team's Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Today's F.O.C.U.S. Feature - Daniel Peterson (Burlington, Wis./Burlington)

Daniel transferred to Northwestern at the semester from Colorado Christian University, and has made an impact on the baseball team in a short time. The freshman outfielder from Burlington, Wis, is a hard worker and his drive to be successful motivates others around him. The physical education and health major is a fun person to be around and helps to provide life in the dugout.

Let's find out more about Daniel and his baseball journey -

Why did you decide to come to Northwestern?
I decided to come to Northwestern after my first college shutdown, but also because I loved the heart for God the school has.

What is your favorite part of being in the baseball program?
Being able to improve as a baseball player, but also as a man chasing God's heart.

Who are some of your favorite professors/staff at UNW?
Some of my favorite staff at UNW include Coach Hieb, Dr. Parish and Professor Chara.

What does your day look like during the season and what does it look like during the off season?
My day during the season looks like; going to class, eating something before pregame, praying before the game myself, devos with the team and getting a win with my team. As far as the offseason, I make sure all of my school work gets done, I do something baseball related, workout and get into God's word.

What is the funniest thing that has happened during your time at UNW?
The funniest thing that has happened at UNW would be the questions after devos at baseball.

What is the best advice you would share with others?
My advice to others would be, don't be afraid to be yourself.

What is something people should know about you?
Something that people should know about me is that I used to be a competitive yo-yoer.

What does FOCUS mean to you?
Focus means to take what you've learned and using it in your everyday life.

What is something an incoming student should know about our baseball program?
Something an incoming student should know about the baseball team is that we are all very close and not afraid to put God first in everything we do.

In a word or two, how would you sum up our baseball program?
Dedicated.

Thanks Daniel, we appreciate your commitment to excellence! ~ Coach Hieb
