The University of Northwestern Eagles returned to action in Fort Pierce, Florida this afternoon as they met the Marywood University Pacers. The Pacers won game one 4-2 and game two 11-4.
Game One
Marywood scored all four of their runs in the top of the first. Their one hit of the game was a bases-clearing double as they took advantage of three walks and an error. The Eagles got on the board in the bottom half of the frame as
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) continued his hot play with a one-out triple to left. He then scored on a passed ball to cut into the Pacers' lead.
Both pitchers settled in until the bottom of the sixth when
Andrew Simonson (Hudson, Wis./East Ridge) led off with a double to left.
Holt Goodwin (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) came through with a clutch two-out RBI double to right to make it a 4-2 game but that was all the Eagles could muster as they went down in order in the seventh.
Overall, it was a quiet game for the Northwestern offense as only three Eagles reached base.

Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) both recorded hit and scored a run.
Sam Ludzack (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) got the start on the mound and threw all seven innings as he gave up zero earned runs (four unearned), one hit, and struck out five.
Game Two
Northwestern took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second as
Carter Michaelson (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) and
Philip Wall (Juneau, Alaska/IDEA) both scored on RBI singles by Wall and
Carlton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls), respectively. The Eagles added a third run in the third as
Andrew Simonson (Hudson, Wis./East Ridge) led off with a walk. He then advanced to third via an error and scored on another error. The Pacers got on the board in the bottom half of the frame and then took the lead as they scored three runs in the fourth.
In the top of the fifth, the Eagles responded with two outs as
Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) hit a double to left and then scored on an
Eric Peterson (Coon Valley, Wis./Westby) single as the Peterson duo struck again to tie the game at four. Marywood scored six of their own runs in the bottom of the fifth to jump ahead and they never relinquished the lead.
UNW had five hits in this game as
Philip Wall (Juneau, Alaska/IDEA) was the only Eagle to reach base multiple times.
Owen Boerema (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) got the start on the mound and showed off his stuff as he struck out seven in four innings of work.
Brandon Welch (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) and
Hunter Engmark (Bethel, Minn./Homeschool) both followed as the Eagles got three first-year players on the mound during the contest.
