ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team welcomed North Central to the Ericksen Center for Saturday afternoon non-conference action. Following a strong second-half performance from the Eagles, the Rams still kept the lead for the entire game. North Central stayed on top as UNW couldn't get past them, falling 56-64 in final scoring.
The Eagles fall to 3-1 on the year, taking their first loss of the season, while the Rams climb to 6-0 on the season.
North Central drained five shots from beyond the arc to lead UNW 26-16 after first quarter action. Northwestern shot 33% from the field to the Rams 53% in the opening quarter.
NCU added to their lead to start the second quarter before two
Hailey Paup (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Concordia Academy) free throws broke the silence. UNW continued to battle, being down by as many as 16, but brought themselves within 10 of the Rams going into halftime.
Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) led things for Northwestern in the first half with nine points.
The Eagles outscored North Central in the third (15-12),
Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) leading the charge with eight points. A
Jordan Sauve (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) three pointer brought UNW within seven entering the fourth quarter.
The Rams went on an eight point run before
Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) scored a bucket for the Eagles. With minimal scoring in the fourth by both teams, the game ended with UNW falling to NCU 56-64.
Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) led Northwestern with her third double-double of the season scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) added 13 points, while
Jordan Sauve (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) had eight.
UNW will return to action on Friday, December 11 when they take on Edgewood College. The Eagles will tipoff in the Ericksen Center at 4 p.m.
