Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern Women's Basketball team was back in action on Friday night as they played host to NAIA foe, Dakota State University. UNW is coming off of a close win over Edgewood College last Friday, while Dakota St. came in with a 8-3 record and have won 7 out of their last 8 games. The Trojans currently sit 2
nd in the NAIA in field goal percentage on offense with 51% of shots made, while also ranking in the top 17 in scoring offense with 85 points per game.
The Eagles got off to a hot start, going up on Dakota St. 13-5 with 4 minutes left in the first quarter, but the Trojans went on a 17-2 run to close the first quarter.
UNW tried to keep it close going into the half, but the Trojans would see their lead increase to 12 and give us a halftime score of 42-30.
The Eagles were able to cut down the lead in the second half thanks to strong post play by
Hailey Paup (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Concordia Academy), but still found themselves down by 11 going in the 4
th quarter.
UNW fought hard to make a comeback, but the Trojans press was just too much and they took this one with a final score of 80-66.
Hailey Paup (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Concordia Academy) once again recorded a career high in points, with 19, while also adding in 6 rebounds. Brookyln DeKam chipped in 15 points with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) added another double-double to her career stat line with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Points off turnovers were key tonight, as Dakota State scored 30 points off 25 UNW turnovers.
The Eagles end their non-conference part of the schedule with a record of 4-2.
UNW will have a nice break before returning to action on Wednesday, February 3
rd for UMAC Conference play against UW-Superior. The Game will be at home and tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
