Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Dallas Gonzales

Men's Soccer Goes Head to Head with Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team hit the road to Forest City, Iowa to take on Waldorf in a Monday evening matchup. Waldorf came into the matchup winless on the 2020 season, sitting at 0-4 while the Eagles are coming off of a loss to Saint Ambrose on Saturday.

UNW Head Men's Soccer Coach Greg Wheaton currently sits three shy of 170 total wins as the head man for the Eagles and looked to cut that to two after today's match.

It was a slow first half for both teams, combing for only 7 shots total (Eagles had 3) and zero goals. It was not until early in the second half when the first goal would be scored by Waldorf. The Eagles would not give up, as 50 seconds later Samuel Jorgensen (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis Central) would answer back on an assist from Isaac Friesen (Mora, Minn./Home School), scoring the lone goal for the Eagles. Waldorf would end up scoring the game winning goal with under 4 minutes left in play to go up on the Eagles and eventually take the win 2-1

Luke McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield High School) led the Eagles in shots with two, while Cole Alfrey (Elkhorn, Neb./Elkhorn), Jonathan-Thomas Olsen (Modesto, Calif./James Enochs High) and Samuel Jorgensen (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis Central) each added one. Goal Keeper Austin Gunkel (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) had 4 saves on the evening.

The Eagles are now 3-6 on the 2020 season.

UNW will look to pick up their fourth win of the season this Wednesday when they play host to Clarke University at 5pm.  This will be the last game of the fall 2020 season for UNW but will pick back up in April for UMAC conference play.
