Men's Soccer Hosts Saint Ambrose in a Saturday Afternoon Showdown

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team played host to the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose for a Saturday afternoon showdown. The Eagles are coming off a 5-1 victory over Faith Baptist on Thursday and came in looking to extend that winning streak to two games.

On the other side, Saint Ambrose is competing in their first match of the 2020 season and finished with 4-12-2 record in 2019, which resulted in a second to last place finish in their conference.

It was a hard fought game for the Eagles, but they could not overcome a tough Saint Ambrose defense, losing 2-1. Freshman William Marsan (Eden Prairie, Minn./Home School) had the lone goal for the Eagles, who was assisted by Isaac Friesen (Mora, Minn./Home School). Marsan now sits tied for second in goals on the team with two.

UNW would go on to have 11 shots on the game, with Luke McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield High School) leading the Eagles in that category with 4. Jonathan-Thomas Olsen (Modesto, Calif./James Enochs High) chipped in 3 shots while William Marsan (Eden Prairie, Minn./Home School) added 2. Goal Keeper Austin Gunkel (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) had 4 saves on the day for the Eagles.

The Eagles are now 3-5 on the 2020 season.

UNW will look to get back on track Monday, October 19 when they head down to Forest City, Iowa to take on Waldorf.  Follow along with UNW men's soccer by visiting www.unweagles.com and following @unwmsoc on Twitter and Instagram.
