Men's Hoops Wins Sixth Straight, Defeating Northland 83-60 on the Road

ASHLAND, WIS. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team matched-up with Northland College for a Saturday afternoon conference tilt.  The Eagles scored 48 points in the paint and shot nearly 50% from the field to cruise to an 83-60 win over the Lumberjacks.

UNW records its sixth straight win to improve to 12-6 overall and 8-1 in the UMAC. Northland falls to 4-14 this season, 1-8 in league play. The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Lumberjacks, 50-19.

Despite trailing by four to begin Saturday action, the Eagles quickly recovered on a long ball from Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) and eventually took the lead on a layup from Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area).

Northwestern put together its first double-digit lead of the day with 7:15 remaining in the first half following a free throw by Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy). UNW led 42-30 at the half after connecting on 47% of shots from the field.

Second half continued to unfold smoothly for the Eagles as back-to-back three pointers from Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) and Brady Peterson (Princeton, Minn./Homeschool) extended the UNW lead to 22 (62-40) with 11 minutes remaining. Their largest lead of the night (27) came with just over four minutes remaining.

It was another night of well-balanced scoring for the Eagles led by Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area). The senior finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) and Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) each added 14 on the night, while Brady Peterson (Princeton, Minn./Homeschool) tacked on 13 and Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) recorded 12.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 29 when they travel to St. Bonifacius, Minn. to take on Crown College. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. against the Storm.
