ASHLAND, WIS. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team matched-up with Northland College for a Saturday afternoon conference tilt. The Eagles scored 48 points in the paint and shot nearly 50% from the field to cruise to an 83-60 win over the Lumberjacks.
UNW records its sixth straight win to improve to 12-6 overall and 8-1 in the UMAC. Northland falls to 4-14 this season, 1-8 in league play. The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Lumberjacks, 50-19.
Despite trailing by four to begin Saturday action, the Eagles quickly recovered on a long ball from
Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) and eventually took the lead on a layup from
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area).
Northwestern put together its first double-digit lead of the day with 7:15 remaining in the first half following a free throw by
Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy). UNW led 42-30 at the half after connecting on 47% of shots from the field.
Second half continued to unfold smoothly for the Eagles as back-to-back three pointers from
Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) and
Brady Peterson (Princeton, Minn./Homeschool) extended the UNW lead to 22 (62-40) with 11 minutes remaining. Their largest lead of the night (27) came with just over four minutes remaining.
It was another night of well-balanced scoring for the Eagles led by
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area). The senior finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Kyle Kaemingk (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) and
Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) each added 14 on the night, while
Brady Peterson (Princeton, Minn./Homeschool) tacked on 13 and
Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) recorded 12.
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 29 when they travel to St. Bonifacius, Minn. to take on Crown College. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. against the Storm.
