ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team met up with Crown College for a Wednesday night conference tilt. The Eagles, who downed the Storm earlier this season at home, put together another strong outing to record their seventh straight win in an 88-73 final.
Northwestern improves to 13-6 on the year and are tied for first place in the UMAC at 9-1. Crown falls to 5-12 overall, 4-6 in league action.
Despite five lead changes in the opening seven minutes, the Eagles took control for good on a three-pointer from senior
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area). UNW extended it to as much as 10 (26-16) following a long ball from
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) in first half play, before entering the half up by five (40-35).
The Storm would tie it up just one minute into second half action, but Northwestern would quickly put together a 16-3 run to regain momentum. The Eagles would lead by a game-high 15 points several times throughout the half before sealing the 88-73 final win.
UNW scored 25 points off of turnovers to Crown's eight, and added 38 points in the paint to the Storm's 28.
Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) led the Eagles with 22 points on the night. The sophomore guard also pulled down seven boards and dished out four assists.
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) tacked on 18 points, draining four shots from beyond the arc.
Brady Peterson (Princeton, Minn./Homeschool),
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) and
Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) rounded out the five Northwestern players finishing with double-digit scoring totals. Peterson added 14, Youngberg had 11 and Bach finished with 10.
