ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team hosted the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors Friday night to start a weekend double-header. Northwestern fought hard and stuck with the undefeated Wisconsin Lutheran team as long as they could, but eventually fell by a final score of 1-0. With the loss, UNW drops to 0-3 on the season.
The first half was an even battle between the Warriors and Eagles. Both teams totaled the same amount of shots (4), saves (2), and fouls (5). Northwestern had a slight three to one advantage in corner kicks, but they were not able to capitalize on any of those opportunities.
Wisconsin Lutheran picked up the offensive intensity in the second half. The Warriors were able to rifle seven more shots and the UNW defense held strong until the 62
nd minute. Wisconsin Lutheran was able to get behind the Eagle defense, fired a shot which would ricochet off the crossbar down into the net for the lone goal of the contest.
Bryan Sanchez (El Paso, Tex./Franklin) and
Isaiah Sharp (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) each led the UNW offensive attack with two shots each, respectively. In his first start in net for the Eagles,
Aidan Lynch (Glendora, Calif./Western Christian) tallied five saves.
Northwestern is back in action tomorrow night, hosting Saint John's University at 7:00 p.m. For all things UNW soccer, fans can follow along at www.unweagles.com.
